East Bound and Down

I'm takin' this pizzawing show on the road...
Look for me at Panic this weekend in Charleston, SC. Home Team BBQ (www.hometeambbq.com/) is on the itinerary for Saturday, more smoked wings, and I'm sure there is gonna be some pizza eating going down somewhere.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone. Eat, drink and have a good time!

The Great Atlanta Wing Face-Off

Fox Bros. VS. DBA
I put all my love and devotion for my beloved Fox Bros. BBQ (www.foxbrosbbq.com) aside Saturday. I had to. It was a wing face off, a challenge of sorts. I could not favor sides...I just couldn't.

Let me set the scene...This week is a holiday week and people are coming in town from all over. It is super cool, good times, friends getting together, eating good food, drinking good whatever and a list of other various things we may or may not have done.

Alex got in from Charleston (I'll be headed there for some pizzawings Fri. & Sat.) Friday night. Saturday morning Alex and Nick joined me for some baconeggs and that is where the idea for the wing off was sparked.

Nick started talkin' all this and that about DBA, a fairly new and seemingly upcoming BBQ joint on N. Highland (www.dbabarbecue.com) and how their smoked wings are real tasty. As you can imagine I was very interested in what Nick had to say, as I thought I had already had the best smoked wings in town.

So the idea was born. We take two smoked wings, put them head to head. We take them from the takeout to my coffee table. Pop those styrofoam boxes open and get down to business.

Two calls were placed. One to Fox Bros. and another to DBA.

2 dudes, 24 wings, and a mission.

Alex and I barely made it home without tearing open the takeout. The smells of smokey meat filled my car to the point of mouth watering insanity.

Finally we arrived at my place. Wings were opened and we began to feast.

It was a frenzy, I was hitting up DBA then a Fox Bros., then a DBA then another Fox. Bros. Dipping in sauces. Wow.

The DBA wings are sensationally smoked, dry, with a side of BBQ (A tangy sweet vinegar sauce). The Fox Bros. wings are also smoked nice, they come sauced up (Fox Bros. BBQ wing sauce, OMG!).

Naturally the sauced up wings from Fox Bros. were very savory. Sweet deliciously sauced up smoked wings that you could never be disappointed with. They got somethin' good goin' on over there...fo sho. If you haven't had em', go get em'.

DBA, crunchy smokey flavor that touches the tongue in that special place and makes you say to yourself..how bout a lil a that?

In the end our napkins were dirty, our bellys were full and Alex had this funny grin on his face.

Props to DBA, very tasty, but after many long minutes of deliberation and reflecting both me and Alex came to the conclusion that Fox Bros. was and is the reigning champion of smoked wings in the ATL.

Jack's Pizza & Wings

Nick Dixon and I sat at the bar eating slices. Lookin' at the action figures posted up behind the bar (they had Ric Flair) awaiting our slice Nick gave me a wealth of information about this spot tucked away in the Old 4th Ward.

We both ordered a slice of pepperoni and mushroom. They didn't skimp on the pepperoni either. It was your typical slice, not bad not amazing. I liked it.

Here's a few things I picked up talking to Nick and hanging out. Wings are baked on the stone, not fried. I had them take out a few weeks ago, they were good but not sauced up enough. I like to get saucy.

They have High Life dollar pints on draft disguised as "Old 4th Ward". 3 dollar well shots. Jello wrestling in the summer. It's Nicks "go to place".

Oh yeah, closed on Tuesday. What?

Jerry Deep Dish Pizza Pan

Jerry Garcia's Face appears in a pizza pan at Jack Straw's Pizza in Wheaton IL????
I dunno. To me it looks like a panda or something. Anyhow, if your ever in Wheaton this sounds like something definitely worth checkin' out. Word is they have real good Chicago Style pizza, hot dogs, and sandwiches.

I was meeting up with a friend over this way Wednesday night. He picked up a pie, I was all about grabbin' a slice.

It was pepperoni. Totally tasty. These little diced tomatoes, and the dough was salty and sweet just how I like it!

So thanks Yogi for unintentionally introducing me to one of Atlanta's finer slices.

It was good.
